About this series
In the ethereal realm of Andy Feltham's "Otherworlds," the boundaries between the tangible and the intangible blur, inviting viewers to embark on a mesmerizing odyssey that transcends the limits of our perceptible reality. Rooted in the profound interconnectedness of the cosmos, Feltham's series is a visual hymn to the cosmic ballet that unites every element, from the minutiae of sub-atomic particles to the grandeur of celestial bodies - revelations beyond the veil, a journey into otherworlds.
The series beckons us to rekindle the child-like wonderment of gazing at the vast oceans or tracing constellations in the night sky—a visceral reminder of our interconnectedness with the cosmos. Feltham skillfully captures the paradoxical experience of recognizing the insignificance of our fleeting existence while reveling in the breathtaking realization that we are woven into the very fabric of the universe.
At the heart of this series lies a profound attempt to unveil the unseen, to glimpse into realms imperceptible to the human eye. Feltham pushes the technical boundaries of photography, employing artificial lighting and extended stutter speeds to reveal a world that exists just beyond the veil of our ordinary perception. Each photograph is a testament to the brief moments when we are granted access to the "Otherworlds," inviting us to witness the extraordinary within the ordinary.
Each piece is free from digital manipulation, to maintain the authenticity of these encounters, states Andy Feltham
Crucially, Feltham's commitment to authenticity shines through in every piece. Eschewing digital manipulation, each image in "Otherworlds" stands as a pure and unaltered encounter with the sublime. The use of artificial lighting and extended exposures becomes a conduit for capturing the essence of the invisible, emphasizing the genuine nature of these encounters with the cosmic unknown.
Obsessed and driven to champion magic in the mundane, I hope to celebrate the facets of life by combining the building blocks of shape, colour and light. Whilst technical precision has its place, rather I aim to convey a feeling or emotion through my work, and I have often found that achieving photographic ‘perfection’ can be at the expense of visceral impact, explains Andy Feltham
The visual language in this body of work is a symphony of light and shadow, an interplay that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. Feltham's meticulous craftsmanship allows viewers to transcend the boundaries of the visual spectrum, granting us a glimpse into the ineffable beauty that lies just beyond the threshold of our perception.
Feltham's series serves as a poignant reminder that, even in our brief and seemingly insignificant existence, we are privileged witnesses to the majesty of the universe—an awe-inspiring revelation that transcends the confines of time and space. "Otherworlds" is not merely a collection of photographs; it is an invitation to explore the cosmic mysteries that bind us to the vast and interconnected web of existence.
