About this series
Hugo Faz's contribution to "The World Today" project, commissioned by Obscura–the largest NFT Photography commission ever made with 10K+ photos, where 138 photographers from all 5 continents took the 1st global visual timestamp of the 21st century–offers a thought-provoking exploration of contemporary society through the lens of Stanley Kubrick's iconic film, "2001: A Space Odyssey." Drawing inspiration from the film's blend of art and science fiction, Faz invites viewers to ponder pressing questions about human evolution, urban development, and the essence of the human experience.
The initial part of the series leans towards street photography, gradually weaving in narrative and thematic elements until the conclusion, which takes on a more performative tone. DRAWLIGHTS emphasizes the performative aspects within this framework.
Echoing the enigmatic black monolith from Kubrick's masterpiece, Faz's work of 100 photographs serves as a guiding thread, prompting viewers to confront the complexities of modern life. Through a series of captivating images, Faz raises unsettling questions about the nature of human relations, the impact of technology, and the pursuit of truth in an age of post-truth.
With each photograph, Faz delves deeper into the heart of contemporary existence, challenging viewers to reassess their assumptions and beliefs. From the isolation of virtuality to the transformative potential of crypto, Faz explores the myriad facets of modern society, offering insights that are both profound and thought-provoking.
In Faz's vision, the black monolith serves as both observer and participant, offering glimpses into the present and offering commentary on the world around us. Whether through subtle gestures or striking imagery, Faz captures the essence of the human experience, inviting viewers to contemplate the meaning of their own lives in an ever-changing world.
Overall, Hugo Faz's contribution to "The World Today" is a masterful blend of artistry and introspection. Through his evocative imagery and thought-provoking themes, Faz invites viewers on a journey of self-discovery, challenging them to confront the truths that lie beneath the surface of contemporary society.
